Figure 5-11. Fixed Synfig Studio packages that run on Ubuntu Jaunty are available from the Debian project and can be installed manually. You need to download the correct binaries for your computer s architecture. This is most likely i386 for all Intel and AMD PCs, or amd64 for newer 64-bit CPUs made by AMD and Intel, such as the Athlon 64 or Intel Core 2 Duo. Whichever you choose, it must match the architecture of the version of Ubuntu you installed. Open these links to packages.debian.org in your web browser, and scroll to the bottom of

concept seems to be vaguely related to the all-important type concept, it seems worthwhile to explore a possible marriage between the object and relational worlds, based on this putative connection (that s one of the things Darwen and I did, in depth and detail, in The Third Manifesto). But the crucial point is that we must have a very clear notion of just what types are including a very clear notion of what it means for one type to be a subtype of another. In The Third Manifesto, we do pin down these notions, very precisely. In the object world, by contrast, we find a great lack of precision and clear thinking in these very areas. My article on circles and ellipses was intended to draw people s attention to such issues.

Doing this without making any other modifications implies that the two methods have a common set of result and fault handlers. This may not be the desired behavior. Different methods would likely need different result handlers because the results will need to be processed appropriately. Sometimes, they may even need different fault handlers. Not to worry, it s easy to define a unique event handler for each of the methods. Just include as many <mx:operation/> compiler tags as the number of methods, for which you need unique handlers. The implementation might look like this:

Some quotes from a message from CC: Perhaps the basic premise is flawed, and a circle is a subset of an ellipse (or in otherwords an ellipse a super type of a circle) Yes I know this is contrary, but it too can be argued .. Justifying this in an application-sense would provide examples of both type and object definition representations What the condition of these two entities are in a mathematical realm is ambiguous if you are dealing with a system which does not obey those same syntactical scriptures I suspect the first sentence in this quote is topsy-turvy; I think CC is trying to suggest that type ELLIPSE might be a subtype of type CIRCLE (but see my earlier remarks on deconstruction!).

<mx:WebService id="myWebService" wsdl="http://localhost:portNumber/Simple wsdl" load=" myWebService.method1(); myWebService.methd2()" fault="genericFaultHandler(event)"> <mx:operation name="method1" result="method1ResultHandler(event)"/> <mx:operation name="method2" result="method2ResultHandler(event)"/> </mx:WebService>

the page, where there is a table of processor architectures. Follow the link for your architecture to a page of specific links for the package, mirrored in dozens of locations around the world. Choose a mirror server close to you, and the package begins downloading. On Ubuntu, the Firefox browser recognizes the package .deb extension and prompts you to open the packages in gdebi, a simple helper application that installs the packages for you (see Figure 5-12).

If so, then the suggestion is not new, of course; the idea is that (for example) circles and ellipses might both have a major semiaxis, but ellipses that aren t circles have a minor semiaxis as well But this suggestion either violates substitutability or (perhaps more likely) violates the type graph as a good model of reality eg, it might mean that we have to pretend that ellipses in general have a radius I don t understand the last two sentences in this quote at all An example of an ellipse as a type / subset of a circle is as follows Type Shape area position End of Type Type Circle Shape dimension1 End of Type Type Ellipse Circle dimension2 End of Type Note the phrasing .. an ellipse as a type / subset of a circle.

Fault and result handlers can be defined for each operation in a web service endpoint. If there are multiple operations and some of these do not have custom fault or result handlers, the default <mx:operation> tag-level fault and result handlers are used. The assumption is that the tag-level fault and result handlers are defined. The information we ve discussed so far would get you through most SOAP web services consumption in Flex without any problem. Remember that web services are subject to the same security constraints as HTTPService calls. This means that a crossdomain.xml file with correct configurations will need to reside in a web service provider domain, if it s different from the one that serves the Flex SWF.

One thing that makes this whole subject so difficult to get your head around, at least in spoken and written debate, is that people will insist on using, for example, the term circle to mean sometimes a type, sometimes a value, and sometimes a variable (not to mention sometimes an object, and possibly other.
